Cows speak #11 : Nutrition

Event06/08/2020

The chemical quality of the ration has an impact on the feeding behaviour of the animals!

In this farm, the feed has high levels of dry matter and concentrates. There is also a high concentration of starch in the feed. All these factors make it a potentially acidogenic diet.

On March 2nd, the breeder decided to stop the intake of buffer substances.

He then followed the impact of this change on the behaviour of his animals thanks to Feed'Live. Two days later, we notice:

  • A decrease in rumination (- 15 minutes)
  • A slight increase in ingestion
  • An imbalance in the ratio of rumination time to ingestion time

Seeing this negative impact with a low rumination time, the buffer substance was added on the evening of March 4.

From then on there was an increase in rumination time. While the rumination time was stable before this test, it took several days for rumination to return to normal.

Feed'Live therefore makes it possible to optimise rationing to increase its efficiency.
