Cows Speak #3 - Grazing

News20/03/2020

While grazing, be sure of the availability of water!

In this breeding, the grazing season started at the beginning of March. We can see the evolution of the rumination according to the evolution of the time spent in the plots (less rumination at the beginning and more at the end of the plot). However, the farmer keeps about 50 % of the winter ration based on maize silage and hay.

On March 29th a problem on the water system appeared when cows went to a different paddock. As a result, rumination decreased. The cows seem to have compensated for this lack of water by eating more green and highly digestible fodder. This resulted in a drop in milk in the tank of about 2 litres per cow and cows showing abnormal signs (competition at the water trough during milking, liquid dung).

The farmer, who was absent from his farm, was able to notice this problem thanks to FeedLive. The cows have returned to normal feeding activity after this problem was fixed.
