Cows speak #5 - kidney failure

Event24/04/2020

Detecting individual health problems: kidney failure

Medria alerted the breeder about this animal which was ruminating little and ingesting less.

  • March 2: the tray test revealed an infected quarter. The next day the animal manifested a large mastitis, which was treated.
  • March 3: her case is getting worse and worse as shown on the curves above.
  • March 4: the veterinarian detects a kidney failure. He recommends drenching her every day, what the breeder did. The result is obvious. The curves are back to normal!
  • March 12: the milk control confirmed the problem with an animal that had lost milk (-6 litres), but without apparent mastitis.

The return of the breeder

"10 days before another cow also had a kidney failure but did not have a collar. When I noticed that she was not well it was already too late, the cow died. »

Medria has therefore made it possible to react quickly on the animal by highlighting feeding behaviour problems. The animal was thus saved and returned to optimal performance.
